Vice President Kashim Shettima has lamented Nigeria’s development indices being behind global standards and urged state governors to take action through effective value-driven political leadership.
Shettima said the state governors must prioritize human and capital development initiatives to ensure sustainable development in the country.
He made this known on Saturday during the inauguration of the newly constructed Bauchi State Government House by the State Governor, Bala Mohammed.
He emphasized the need for governors to address challenges in sectors like health, education and security to bring development to their respective states.
“Development indices in many Nigeria states lag behind the global standards and effective value-driven political leadership is necessary to improve.
“By promoting right values across schools, institutions and government agencies, state governments can lay a solid foundation for future progress.
“It is incumbent upon all of us in positions of authority to take interventions in developing governance infrastructure as a catalyst to harmonise and supervise our policy-making process in the country.”
He further applauded Governor Mohammed for reconstructing the State Government House and his continuous efforts towards repositioning the state through developmental projects.
He said: “This edifice will In-Sha-Allah stand the test of time, and posterity will judge you kindly for devoting your time, energies and resources towards the development of Bauchi State.”
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, Shettima further commended governors of the Northeastern states who were present at the event for their commitment, urging them to remain united against the challenges of the region.
In his remark, Governor Mohammed appreciated the vice president for honouring his invitation to commission the project, adding that his administration’s goal was to establish legacy projects capable of sustaining the ambitious developmental needs of the state’s people.
