Troops of the Nigerian Army have ambushed terrorists in Lawanti area and a location near Shetimari, Sabon-Gari, and the Amarwa Bulamari Exchange Point in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, killing seven.
The ambush took place at the two locations on Saturday following credible intelligence report on the movements of the terrorists.
The operations were carried out by troops deployed for counter-terrorism operations in the Northeast in collaboration with the Hybrid Force and the Civilian Joint Task Force.
The first operation at Lawanti led to the killing of six terrorists in a fierce battle between the troops.
As contained in statement by the Nigerian Army on Sunday, the troops also recovered weapons, including one General Purpose Machine Gun and 40 rounds of 7.62 x 51 mm belted ammunition.
The statement partly reads: “Troops of the Nigerian Army deployed for Counter-terrorism operations in the North East, in collaboration with the Hybrid Force and the Civilian Joint Task Force on Saturday 18 May 2024 made a significant stride in the ongoing operations, neutralizing several terrorists’ threats.
“The troops acting on credible intelligence on the movement of the terrorists to carry out their nefarious mission, laid an ambush around the Lawanti area and neutralized 6 of the terrorists in the firefight that ensued.
