The planned session at the Federal High Court under the jurisdiction of Justice Abdullahi Liman to address the dispute rocking the Kano emirate was postponed due to the nationwide strike led by organized labour advocating for an increase in the minimum wage.
TREND reports that the Kano State House of Assembly has repealed the 2019 Kano Emirates law that created four Emirates under Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje administration and deposed all the emirs installed under the said law including Aminu Ado Bayero.
TREND further reports that the State Assembly reversed to the old law of Kano Emirate and reinstated Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as Emir of Kano, endorsed by Governor Abba yusuf.
The development resulted in multiple conflicting judgements from both Federal and State High Court Judges, creating tension in the State.
The Federal High Court has ordered the State Police, the Commissioner of Police in Kano, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Department of State Services (DSS) to refrain from implementing the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Law 2024, recently approved by the Kano State House of Assembly and endorsed by Governor Yusuf.
