Patients at Kubwa General Hospital in Abuja have been left stranded as medical personnel refuse to attend to them due to the ongoing strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
TREND reports that Organized Labour began indefinite industrial action on Monday to protest Federal Government’s N60,000 minimum wage proposal.
Report says although the hospital’s gates were open, a worker at the Radiology Unit informed patients that the hospital would not be attending to anyone because of the strike.
“We are not attending to patients today because of the strike,” she told the patients.
A patient at the Pharmacy unit of the Accident and Emergency Wards, who preferred to remain anonymous, complained that she had made payments but was denied medication and a refund because the unit had closed due to the strike.
“They collected money and refused to give us the drugs. If they knew they wouldn’t attend to anyone because of the strike, why did they open?” she asked.
While the Post-Natal ward and Laboratory Units appeared to be operating, our correspondent gathered that hospital staff were trying to attend to as many patients as possible before the Labour leaders arrived to enforce the strike.
