The Federal Government has offered a new minimum wage of N62,000 for Nigerian workers.
A reliable source hinted that President Bola Tinubu gave the approval Friday evening after receiving a cost analysis of the minimum wage from Finance Minister Wale Edun.
However, organised labour also reportedly lowered its demand for a new national minimum wage from N494,000 to N250,000.
What’s not clear as at press time is whether the offer by the Federal Government is accepted by Labour or not as the body is yet to issue a statement on the development.
TREND reports that the governors of the 36 states of the Federation have rejected the Federal Government’s earlier proposal of a N60,000 minimum wage.
Hajiya Halimah Salihu Ahmed, Director of Media and Public Affairs for the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), confirmed this in a statement issued on Friday.
Recall that the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, went on an indefinite strike on Monday after rejecting the federal government’s N60,000 offer as the minimum wage.
