Four shot as gunmen invade Enugu community

Four individuals have been hospitalized following a shooting incident in Enugu State.

Gunmen reportedly attacked the Umu-Ezuboke Umualor community in the Isi-Uzo local government area close to midnight on Saturday, June 15th.

One of the victims, Mr. Methodist Ejiagbo, recounted the harrowing experience from his hospital bed: “Three months ago, some individuals from Abakaliki threatened me, claiming they would take over my house and land.

On Saturday, I noticed suspicious activity near my house involving vehicles resembling police vans and individuals in uniforms. They confiscated phones and machetes from locals returning from the farms.”

“Later that night, around 11 pm, they returned and began shooting indiscriminately. They used machetes and clubs, causing severe injuries. It was a terrifying ordeal,” Mr. Ejiagbo added.

He further disclosed that the gunmen had made previous threats and had recently displayed a bullet sack disguised as a talisman. Despite warnings, the attack unfolded, allegedly involving over 20 assailants including identified individuals from Amankanu and Abakaliki.

The Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, has not yet responded to inquiries regarding the incident.
