The FIFA rankings reveal that the Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped eight places since the last update on April 4th.
This decline, according to Beli Media, follows their struggles in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, where they drew 1-1 with South Africa on June 7th and lost 1-2 to Benin on June 10th.
In response to these setbacks, the team’s new manager, Finidi George, resigned after the Nigeria Football Federation announced plans to hire a new foreign technical adviser.
In Africa, Morocco, Egypt, and Cote d’Ivoire each improved by one spot, while Senegal dropped one spot.
The highest-ranked African team is now the Atlas Lions of Morocco at No. 12, followed by Senegal’s Teranga Lions at 18, Egypt’s Pharaohs at 36, the African champions Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire at 37, and the Super Eagles rounding out Africa’s top five at 38.
According to FIFA’s release, the top three positions remain unchanged, with Argentina retaining the top spot, followed by France and Belgium. However, there is movement elsewhere in the rankings, with Brazil climbing to fourth place and England dropping to fifth.
Portugal, the Netherlands, and Spain maintain their positions in the top ten, while Croatia overtakes Italy to claim ninth place.
These rankings are likely to undergo further changes this month due to the Euro Championship and Copa America tournaments.
