Speeding driver knocks down FRSC officer, escapes from scene

An unknown driver struck a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer on duty in Osun State on Friday.

The officer was conducting routine road checks on Friday morning when the vehicle, traveling towards Gbongan, approached him and a colleague.

Eyewitness Salam Ademola reported that other officers, noticing the vehicle’s high speed, quickly moved to safety. However, the victim hesitated, attempting to stop the driver.

“Other officers ran to safety upon seeing the speeding car, but the officer who was hit waited, believing the driver would stop. Sadly, when he finally tried to move, it was too late. The car knocked him off the road and dragged him a few meters. The driver did not stop,” Ademola said.

Osun State FRSC Sector Commander Inyang Umoh confirmed that the officer is in stable condition. Efforts are being made to apprehend the driver, who remains at large. “The officer is in stable condition. We are working to catch the driver, but he has not been arrested yet,” Umoh stated.
