Police increase security at Sanusi, Bayero Palaces

The Kano State Police Command has significantly increased the number of armed personnel stationed at the palaces of the two rival emirs in Kano’s metropolitan local government areas.

Reports indicate that hunters who were previously guarding the palaces have stepped down following the arrival of additional police forces.

Outgoing Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, confirmed the deployment during an interview with journalists. He emphasized the importance of this action, saying, “Equipped and armed personnel have been deployed to handle any unforeseen circumstances around the identified areas.”

Gumel, who also holds the position of Assistant Inspector General of Police, explained that the increased police presence aims to ensure security and promote peaceful co-existence within the state.

“Armed personnel have been deployed to provide security at the Kofar Kudu Palace, home of Emir Malam Mohammad Sanusi, and the Nasarawa Mimi Palace, residence of Emir Aminu Bayero,” he stated.

The police commissioner called for public cooperation, urging residents to support police efforts by providing information that could help maintain peace and stability in the state.

“The police appeal for public support and urge residents to provide information that could aid in maintaining peace, progress, and political stability,” Gumel said.

He reassured the public of the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, enabling them to carry out their activities without fear.

“The command is committed to providing the required security that will enable all residents to pursue their legitimate activities without threats to lives and property,” Gumel affirmed.

This deployment comes amidst heightened tensions in Kano due to the ongoing emirship dispute.
