Protests erupt in Ondo following abduction of 300-Level student

Under the umbrella of the National Association of Nigerian Students, tertiary institution students in Ondo state have taken to the streets to protest the abduction of Akindoyo Gideon, a 300-level Computer Engineering student at Al-Hilmah University in Kwara State.

The incident occurred at Lumeko village on his parents’ farm, situated between Igbobini and Ode Irele Communities in Ese Odo and Irele council areas of the state, BELI Media reports on Monday.

Reportedly, Gideon had traveled to meet his parents and later proceeded to the farm on his motorcycle to harvest cassava when he was abducted. Despite discovering his motorcycle at the farm, his whereabouts remain unknown.

During the demonstration, students called upon Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and state security agencies to intervene urgently and locate the missing student. Holding placards with messages like ‘Bring back Gideon dead or alive,’ ‘Mr Governor, we need UR Help,’ ‘Akindoyo Gideon missing since 11th June 2024, Where is he?,’ and ‘Gideon where are you,’ they appealed for swift action.

Senate President of NANS, Comrade Henry Olukunomo, urged the abductors to release Gideon, emphasizing that if he is deceased, his body should be handed over for a proper burial, and if he is alive, he should be returned to alleviate his family’s distress.

Mrs. Janet Akindoyo, Gideon’s mother, expressed concern over her son’s disappearance since June 10, urging the community and authorities to aid in his search.

The police spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami, confirmed that efforts are underway, including searches in the forest and ongoing investigations into the abduction case.
