Bandits kidnap journalists, family in Kaduna

Bandits attacked the residences of two journalists in Dahjonu community, Kaduna State on Saturday night, kidnapping them along with their wives and children.

The victims include Abdulgafar Alabelewe, Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kaduna State Council, and AbdulRaheem Abdu, a journalist with Blueprint newspaper, as reported by The PUNCH.

According to Taofeeq Olayemi, a family member of one of the victims, the bandits arrived around 10:30 pm, shooting indiscriminately before abducting the journalists and their families.

Alabelewe, his wife, and two children were taken, along with Abdu and his wife, who left their sick daughter behind due to her condition.

“They shattered their doors and windows and removed their burglary after scaling the fence,” Olayemi stated. Describing the incident, he mentioned, “They first forced Aodu’s door open and picked him and his wife and left their sick daughter behind. Then, they entered Abdulgafar’s house through the fence and jumped into his house.”

The area’s vigilantes arrived shortly after the abduction and began firing into the air, but as of now, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, has not commented on the incident.
