The Lagos police command has announced the arrest of a man accused of stealing a car from an Uber driver.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesperson in Lagos, stated that the incident was reported on July 5 at the Akinpelu police division by the Uber driver, who chose to remain anonymous.
According to Hundeyin, the driver picked up a passenger identifying himself as Isaiah at the NNPC filling station in Maryland, driving him to a hotel in the Oshodi area of Lagos. At the hotel, the suspect bought food for the driver, including a plate of pepper soup and an energy drink.
“In the process, when the suspect was looking for a cotton bud to clean his ear, the driver gave him his car key to use,” NAN quoted Hundeyin as saying.
“The driver further said that the suspect went downstairs after collecting the car key and went away with his car from where it was parked.
“However, a team of police officers on a stop-and-search operation at Boladale Street intercepted him.
“When he could not give a satisfactory account of the ownership of the car, he was arrested.”
Hundeyin added that the driver came when police officers were about to take the suspect to the station and identified the car.
He said the suspect had been detained for further investigation.
