The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court on Wednesday upheld Asue Ighodalo as the official governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State.
In case CS/469/24, Justice James Omotosho ruled that Mr. Ighodalo was validly nominated at the PDP primaries on February 22, 2024, in Benin City. He dismissed the objections brought by political rival Philip Shaibu.
Mr. Ighodalo won the primaries with 577 votes, defeating Mr. Shaibu and 10 other aspirants. It remains uncertain whether Mr. Shaibu will appeal the decision.
The prominent Lagos-based business lawyer is widely considered the frontrunner in the gubernatorial election scheduled for September 2024.
