APC appeals to Nigerians to shun nationwide protest over hardship

The national working committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Nigerians to avoid participating in the planned protests against President Bola Tinubu’s administration set for August 1-10.

During a briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, following the NWC’s 153rd meeting, APC National Secretary Surajudeen Basiru urged Nigerians to trust the current government’s ability to address the nation’s economic issues.

“The APC, along with President Tinubu, is appealing to those planning protests to reconsider,” Basiru said. “We urge you to have confidence in the government’s efforts to tackle the economic challenges facing the country.”

Basiru acknowledged that the Tinubu administration, since taking office in 2023, has faced numerous economic difficulties.

He reassured that the president is gradually implementing policies and programs designed to provide relief and improve the situation for citizens.

He pointed out that many economic challenges are global issues that require careful consideration.

Some of the concerns raised by protest organizers are political or constitutional in nature and can only be addressed through constitutional amendments currently being discussed in the National Assembly.

Basiru called for support for President Tinubu’s efforts and assured that the current difficulties will be overcome.

He also advised parents and concerned citizens to keep an eye on their children and wards to prevent them from being used to create unrest.

Additionally, he announced that APC chairpersons from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been called to an emergency meeting for further discussions on the issue.
