The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has alerted its members at federal and state-owned teaching hospitals, specialist hospitals, and public health institutions to be on standby as the #EndBadGovernance protest begins today.
Speaking to The PUNCH, NARD President Dr. Dele Abdullahi stated that while the association itself will not join the protest, its members are ready to provide medical care to any injured participants.
He said, “We appreciate the people’s intention to protest, but as an association, we have not decided to join.
“However, we have discussed potential emergencies in our congress, and most of our centers are on red alert to handle any injuries sustained during the protest. All our members are prepared to ensure the safety of the injured.
“Protesters may sustain injuries and we can promise that all our members are ready to attend to them, all our hands are on deck to ensure we safeguard the lives of the injured.”
The protest, led by several civil society organizations including the Take It Back Movement, aims to initiate a 10-day nationwide strike to pressure the government into addressing the country’s worsening economic conditions.
