Simon Ekpa, the self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafran Republic in Exile, has addressed the low turnout of protesters in the Southeast. The protests, which began on August 1, had a notable impact on public properties.
In a post on his official X account, Ekpa attributed the reduced participation to the Biafran referendum, claiming that the region’s residents have expressed a unified stance once again. According to Vanguard, Ekpa emphasized that the referendum reflects the collective voice of the people.
Ekpa called for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, an end to the militarization of Biafran territory, and the acceptance of the Biafra referendum. He claimed that over 49 million Biafrans have cast their votes in favor of the Biafran self-referendum.
He wrote, “Once again, Biafrans have spoken in one voice. What other evidence do you need to know that Biafrans have rejected Nigeria?
“While the regions that believe in Nigeria are protesting to end bad governance, Biafra has once again demonstrated that they are not part of Nigeria and cannot protest to end bad governance in Nigeria.
“While those who believe in one Nigeria are protesting, Biafrans have disassociated themselves, meaning that they have accepted the Biafra Government as the only legitimate government they are loyal to.”
Earlier, Ekpa had ordered that no Biafra should join the protest to the hardship protest.
