A fire broke out at an LG office in Lagos State on Sunday, destroying goods and electronics valued at millions of naira.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement provided to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
According to LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the fire occurred at the LG office located in Abule Osun, Trade Fair area of Lagos.
“LASEMA received distress calls via the 767 and 112 toll-free emergency lines at around 12:15 a.m. and promptly activated the Lagos State Emergency Response Plans,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.
“Upon arriving at the scene around 12:40 a.m., it was discovered that a fire was raging through the LG office at the mentioned location. The fire had spread throughout the entire warehouse, damaging equipment, small forklifts, household goods, and electronics worth hundreds of millions of naira,” he added.
While the cause of the fire remains undetermined, Oke-Osanyintolu noted that LASEMA, in coordination with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, was working to prevent the fire from spreading further.
“LASEMA has also activated its fire unit, deploying additional fire appliance trucks for rapid intervention. Although no fatalities or injuries were reported, the fire has engulfed the entire premises,” he said.
The operation is ongoing, with all responders and LG staff relocated outside the premises for safety. Additional fire trucks have been dispatched to the scene, and the Nigerian Army and Police are also providing support.
