Abia LP chieftain, Mazi Emma Uche lauds Gov Otti’s committment to deepening democracy at grassroots

Prominent Abia political stalwart of the labour party (LP), Mazi Emmanuel Uche of Arochukwu LGA in Abia state, has commended the Governor, Dr Chioma Alex Otti, for ruling out automatic tickets for the current Caretaker Committee Mayors in the state in the conduct of the imminent Local Government Council Areas election. This is a good omen as it will open doors for the best of the best to emerge as the candidates.

He made the commendation on Sunday, while speaking to some people and newsmen on Sunday at his residence in Amuvi in Arochukwu LGA, Abia state.

Recall that Governor Otti had stated that there would be no automatic candidates for all the Mayors in all the seventeen LGA of the state in the forthcoming Council election. Otti said this on Friday night at Government House, Umuahia during his monthly interactive session with the press.

Continuing, Mazi Uche said that the Governor’s position was a demonstration of the present administration’s commitment to deepening democratic process at the grassroots within the state.

Emma Uche, popularly known as Okwuoto, also said that the governor, Dr Alex Otti, “is seen to be saying that the state and the party need popular, accountable, capable and competent people as candidates that will stand and win elections and deliver good governance at all levels of government at the forthcoming LGA Councils election through democratic processes. In other words there would be no imposition of candidates.

He said the Governor needs popular and capable hands as candidates that are prepared to support his government in the 2027 political tasks that are soon to come.

“And so Governor Alex Otti needs capable hands to consolidate the positive strides his administration has made in the economy, infrastructural development, security, and other critical sectors in the state.

“He needs people who will be bold and courageous, confident and transparent in assisting him to deliver more dividends of good governance at the grassroots.

He expressed his implicit confidence in the ability of the leadership of Labor party at the state level to hold credible primaries that will produce the best men and women of proven integrity to stand as candidates of the Labour Party in the forthcoming local government council polls in Abia state.

Uche believes in the ability of the INEC or the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) to conduct transparent and acceptable council polls through out the whole local government areas of the state.

He also appealed to the leadership of the State House of Assembly to continue to support the Executive arm of the government by making necessary laws that will help the government develop the rural areas of the state.

The LP chieftain used the medium to admonished people of the state to remain steadfast with their support to the present government as it is committed in giving Abia state a total economic and infrastructural face-lifts to enhance their welfare.
