An explosion has hit the Secretariat of the Action People’s Party (APP) in Rivers State.
The blast occurred early Monday morning at the party’s state office, located in the GRA area of Port Harcourt.
Initial reports indicate that the explosion was caused by a detonated dynamite, with a loud blast heard around 1 a.m.
Although the perpetrators have not yet been identified, the incident is suspected to be connected to the ongoing leadership disputes within the state.
According to reports, the dynamite was allegedly planted by suspected political thugs, resulting in significant damage to the building. The explosion shattered windows, doors, and other party assets, as well as damaging the ceiling and interior fixtures, leaving the party’s leadership and members in a state of alarm.
This incident comes amid speculation that Governor Siminialayi Fubara may be planning to defect to the APP with his supporters, following claims that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state has been overtaken by his predecessor, Chief Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
