Confusion gripped the town of Ikirun in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State yesterday after a local security guard was found murdered at his duty post by unknown assailants.
The deceased, popularly known as ‘Ibariba,’ was discovered early Monday at the entrance of a shop owned by a man identified as Baba Giwa.
According to a local resident, Rafiu Sola, the lifeless body of Ibariba was found in the morning as businesses were preparing to open for the day. The unsettling discovery led residents to quickly notify security authorities.
Officers from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) promptly arrived at the scene and removed the body.
Kehinde Adeleke, the spokesperson for the Osun State Command of the NSCDC, confirmed the incident when contacted.
Adeleke said: “The remains of the local security guard had been deposited in a morgue. Investigations have commenced by the officers of the corps in the division to unravel the cause of his death and apprehend the perpetrators of the evil act.”
