The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has rescheduled the upcoming local government elections earlier scheduled for Nov.26 to Oct.30 to beat the Supreme Court’s October deadline.
The chairman of the commission, Sani Malumfashi, announced the new date on Friday while addressing journalists in Kano.
“In recognition and conformity with the recent Supreme Court decision, the mutual agreement between states and the federal government upon the expiration of the October deadline.
“The commission is justifiably compelled to reschedule the local government election to Oct.26 as against Nov.30,” Mr Malumfashi said.
The commission had fixed N10 million as nomination fees for the chairmanship position and N5 million for the councillorship slot.
The aspirants had kicked against the exorbitant nomination fees.
In spite of the opposition from the aspirants, the commission maintained its position.
