PDP gets new chairman

The Katsina State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has elected Nura Mohammed-Kurfi as its new chairman.

Mohammed-Kurfi, along with 30 other officials, was elected during the state congress held on Saturday in Katsina.

The election was overseen by a 12-member committee from the party’s headquarters in Abuja, led by Sa’idu Bello. This state congress followed earlier congresses held at the ward and local government levels.

In the announcement of the results, the congress committee chairman declared Magaji Lawal as vice-chairman, while Sanusi Aliyu was re-elected as the party’s secretary.

Other key positions filled include Muhammad Nuraddeen as legal adviser, Umar Tijjani as publicity secretary, Haruna Aliyu as organizing secretary, Hussaina Ahmed as women leader, and Abubakar Yusuf as the new auditor.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman, Mohammed-Kurfi, expressed gratitude to party leaders, delegates, members, and stakeholders for their unwavering support. He urged all members to remain united and work together for the party’s progress.

He also pledged to adopt an open-door policy, aiming to revitalize the party in preparation for the 2027 elections. Emphasizing the importance of discipline, he called on members to stay loyal to the party’s leadership.

Senator Lado, in his remarks, encouraged the people to rally behind the PDP, describing it as the only party capable of rescuing Nigerians from the current hardships facing the nation.

He appealed to aggrieved members to put aside their differences and work together for the party’s success, urging them to support the newly elected leaders to propel the party to greater heights.

It is worth noting that Dr. Mustapha Inuwa, who leads a faction within the party, previously expressed concerns that some members were denied the opportunity to purchase forms for the congresses at the ward, local government, and state levels.
