The Plateau State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has announced that it has uncovered plans by individuals with malicious intent to disrupt the party ahead of the local government elections scheduled for October 9, 2024.
In a statement issued on Monday in Jos, Shittu Bamaiyi, the State Acting Publicity Secretary of the APC, revealed that the party has information about a group operating under the guise of “foundation members.” This group is reportedly mobilizing individuals to sow discord and create divisions within the party.
Bamaiyi further indicated that the group aims to use certain media platforms to spread misinformation about the party’s situation in Plateau State.
According to Bamaiyi, “In the first instance, the name “foundation members” connotes mischief, because as far as the APC is concerned, there exist no differentials in respect of membership, since all supporters enjoy the same recognition and respect in the Party. For anybody or a group of persons to wake up and claim superiority over others is an attempt to create class difference with the sole intention of weakening the Party structure and cohesion to achieve some subterranean motives.
“The Party is not unaware that some people have not been happy with the ongoing reconciliatory exercise and would, therefore, go all out to sabotage the moves for some reasons best known to them. The party suspects the “voice of Jacob and hands of Esau” in the ill-intentioned, ill-conceived, and ill-timed agenda of the group. What smacks suspicion and misgivings about the motive of the group, is the timing of its planned actions, particularly when the local government elections are about to take place.
“Intelligence gathered points to the fact that the main purpose of the group is to ferment trouble for the Party not to be able to face the local government elections squarely. The APC is appealing to its members to remain calm and resolute, as well as disregard any misinformation that might come from the group, as it is nothing but a hatchet job to frustrate the Party from actively participating in the local government elections in the State.”
