Correctional officer kills colleague over food in Bauchi

A Correctional Officer stationed at the Burra Correctional Centre in Bauchi State has allegedly killed a fellow officer following a minor disagreement over food.

The incident occurred on Tuesday around 2 pm in Burra town, Ningi Local Government Area.

According to an anonymous eyewitness, the deceased officer, Aliyu Abubakar Chiroma, and the suspect, Kabiru Abubakar, were known to be close friends within the facility.

The dispute reportedly began when Chiroma brought his lunch, and Kabiru demanded to share it, which escalated into a heated argument.

The Public Relations Officer of the correctional centre, Aminu Ahmed, confirmed the incident to journalists, clarifying that it took place outside the correctional premises. He added that the deceased, Chiroma, was from Giade LGA, while the suspect, Kabiru, hails from Dass LGA. Both officers were assigned to the Burra Correctional Centre.

Ahmed further stated that Chiroma’s body has been handed over to his family for burial, and the suspect is currently in police custody while investigations are ongoing.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson for the Command for additional comments were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
