Amokachi named as Lobi Stars head coach

Former Super Eagles legend, Daniel Amokachi, has been appointed as the new head coach of Nigeria Professional Football League club Lobi Stars.

This major move follows a reshuffle in the club’s coaching setup, as the board officially parted ways with Coach Eugene Agagbe, effective immediately.

Agagbe’s dismissal came after failing to meet the club’s target of securing five wins in recent matches.

Under his tenure, Lobi Stars managed only one victory, suffering three losses, which ultimately prompted the board to review his performance.

The club, based in Makurdi, Benue State, has now entrusted Amokachi, fondly known as ‘The Bull,’ with the task of rejuvenating the team’s fortunes.

The club released a statement announcing Amokachi’s appointment, stating, “The Bull has been appointed with immediate effect in an attempt to revitalize its strategy and improve performance on the pitch.”

Amokachi, who enjoyed a distinguished career as a player, now joins an elite group of ex-Super Eagles players transitioning to coaching roles in the NPFL.

His former teammates, Finidi George and Emmanuel Amuneke, have both been previously linked to top coaching roles with the Nigerian national team.

In addition to Agagbe’s exit, Lobi Stars has also decided to let go of all their backroom staff.

The departing staff have been asked to reapply if they wish to continue with the club. They are required to hand over all club property in their possession to the club secretary immediately.

This sweeping change reflects the club’s determination to implement a fresh strategy and return to winning ways.

The appointment of Amokachi, a figure synonymous with success and leadership, signals Lobi Stars’ ambition to make a strong impact in the NPFL under his guidance.
