APC may postpone NEC meeting to 2025

There are indications that the Abdullahi Ganduje-led leadership of the All Progressives Congress may postpone the inaugural meeting of the National Executive Committee till 2025.

Sources at the APC Secretariat attributed the reason to the busy schedule and unavailability of President Bola Tinubu, who has not yet returned to the country.

“As we speak, Mr President is not back in the country. This was also the reason we had to annul the initial September dates we chose for the NEC meeting.

“But whichever way, the chances of holding a NEC meeting this year are no longer feasible. It is just two months until the end of the year. Again, we can’t fix it around the festive period in December. Perhaps in 2025, but 2024 is gone for sure,” a source noted.

The concerns were raised barely two months after the ruling APC announced an indefinite postponement of its National Caucus and National Executive Committee earlier scheduled for September 11 and 12 respectively.

Although no reason was given for the suspension of the meetings, the National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, stated that a new date would be announced later.

Our correspondent, however, gathered that the two engagements were called off because of Tinubu’s absence.

When contacted for reaction, the National Deputy Organising Secretary of the APC, Nze Chidi Duru told our correspondent that no new date was fixed.

When asked if the party would still hold a meeting again in 2024, Duru said he could not tell.

He said, “No new date has been fixed. For us, we are not aware of any new date. As of now, the postponement still stands.”

Also, the National Legal Adviser of the APC, Abdulkareem Kana shared the same view.

“We can’t say when the next NEC meeting will be held. I am aware a new date has not been fixed.

“For us at APC, we can’t do anything until we get a new date from the President. He is expected back in the country any moment from his travel,” he stated.
