Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has delegated his responsibilities to his deputy, Alhaji Umar Kadafur, who will serve as acting governor for a month.
Kadafur’s tenure as acting governor will last from June 10 to July 8, 2024.
The announcement was made during an emergency session of the Borno State House of Assembly (BOSHA) on Friday.
Speaker Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan explained that Governor Zulum’s decision adheres to the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), ensuring a seamless transition of power.
“The Borno State House of Assembly has received an Executive Communication informing members of the transfer of the governor’s duties to the Deputy Governor,” Lawan stated.
The Speaker commended the decision, highlighting that it ensures continuity in governance and smooth state operations.
This is not the first time Governor Zulum has handed over power to his deputy. He did the same during his first term while attending the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
Additionally, House leader Hon. Dige Muhammad proposed a motion for the House to recess and reconvene on July 9, 2024, which was approved.
The assembly session was subsequently adjourned.
