The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is set to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Victor Osimhen, the Super Eagles’ first-choice striker, following his public criticism of former national team coach Finidi George.
Osimhen, who plays for Napoli, expressed frustration over reported remarks by George questioning his commitment to the team, especially regarding his absence from recent World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.
NFF President Ibrahim Muse Guseu has reportedly engaged Osimhen regarding his outburst, and George has also reached out to him to clarify that the reported comments were untrue.
Despite these efforts, a board member of the NFF indicated dissatisfaction with Osimhen’s reaction, noting that his statements were unwarranted and divisive. The board member emphasized that disciplinary action will be taken after the international break, stressing that Osimhen will not be considered for selection until he apologizes for his actions.
The NFF aims to uphold standards of conduct within the team and support the new coach’s authority by addressing this matter decisively.
