Nollywood icon Amaechi Muonagor was laid to rest in his hometown of Obosi, located in the Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State on Friday.
The ceremony was marked by tears and tributes from family members, relatives, and colleagues from the Nollywood community.
Among those present to mourn the late actor were Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, and Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Tourism, and Entertainment, Dom Onyenji.
In his condolence speech, Obi expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the beloved actor and urged the grieving family to find solace. He prayed for Muonagor’s soul to rest in peace.
Onyenji highlighted the significant loss to Nollywood, describing Muonagor as a creative force within the industry. He affirmed the Anambra State government’s solidarity with Nollywood, acknowledging Muonagor’s impactful roles and his mentorship of upcoming stars.
Emeka Ejezie, the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), also conveyed his condolences. Represented by veteran actor Steve Eboh, Ejezie praised Muonagor’s contributions and prayed for the family to have the strength to bear the loss.
AGN State Chairman, Mrs. Chinyere Anyaegbunam, spoke highly of Muonagor, noting that he was a cherished figure in the industry. She emphasized his role as a mentor and father figure to many in Nollywood.
The burial of Amaechi Muonagor was a poignant moment for all who knew and admired him, marking the end of an era for a cherished Nollywood legend.
