NELFUND postpones student loan application for state-owned institutions

NELFUND has announced a delay in the student loan application process for state-owned institutions due to incomplete data submissions, according to a statement from the agency in Abuja.

The postponement, lasting 14 days, is attributed to several state institutions failing to upload required student data and fee information to the NELFUND Student Verification System.

Currently, only a fraction of state universities, state colleges, and state polytechnics have successfully completed the data submission process. For instance, out of 48 state universities, only 20 have submitted their data.

Similar low submission rates were reported for state colleges and polytechnics.

Originally scheduled to commence on June 25, 2024, the application window will now open on July 10, 2024.

This extension aims to give state institutions additional time to comply with data submission requirements, ensuring that their students can benefit from the Federal Government’s student loan scheme.

NELFUND emphasized the importance of complete and accurate information for a smooth verification and application process.

Required data includes JAMB numbers, matriculation numbers, admission numbers, full names, level, faculties, departments, program durations, fees, and gender of eligible students.

Incomplete or incorrect submissions may lead to delays or disqualification of applications.

The fund urged all state institutions to expedite their data submission processes to avoid disadvantaging students dependent on these loans to support their education.

Institutions failing to meet the revised deadline risk their students missing out on crucial financial support.
