Mother cries out as 32-year-old daughter goes missing in Kogi

A woman from Okenne, Kogi State, is in distress after her 32-year-old daughter, Hamidat Abdulrafiu, went missing on June 18, 2024. Hamidat had left home to meet a customer in Lokoja but never returned.

Hamidat’s mother, Mrs. Ramot Yakubu, shared her concerns with *City Round*, explaining that her daughter’s phone has been unreachable since June 19. Despite tracing her movements to Abuja and filing a report with the police, no signs of kidnapping or accidents have been found, and efforts to locate her have been unsuccessful.

“Hamidat is a businesswoman who sells unisex clothes. She frequently travels to Lokoja to meet customers and collect payments for goods sold on credit,” Mrs. Yakubu explained.

According to Mrs. Yakubu, Hamidat called her upon arriving in Lokoja. However, on the morning of June 19, when Mrs. Yakubu tried to contact her daughter, there was no response, and Hamidat’s phone has remained off since then.

“I have another daughter at the Federal University in Lokoja. I called her to see if her sister was with her, but she said no,” Mrs. Yakubu added.

A friend who stayed at Hamidat’s place returned from Abuja on June 19. Neighbors in the compound reported that Hamidat left around 8:00 p.m. on June 18 after receiving a call. They noted that she did not eat the food she had requested, and her bathing soap, body cream, and clothes were found untouched in her room.

When asked if there had been any ransom demands or threats, Mrs. Yakubu said there had been none.

John Stephen, a police officer from the Adavi Police Divisional Headquarters, confirmed the incident. “According to her family, it is unusual for her to go missing for days without any contact,” he stated.
