Mother of kidnapped NYSC member pleads for help as bandits demand N30m ransom

The mother of Oluwaseun Adewole, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member abducted on Ifon road in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, has issued a desperate plea for her son’s release.

In a video posted on Sunday, the woman, who chose to remain anonymous, urgently appealed for assistance to free her son from his captors.

“My only child was abducted by kidnappers while returning from his NYSC mandatory orientation camp,” she said, visibly distressed. “This is a devastating situation. His father is unable to help due to a stroke and is powerless to act. Nigerians, please help me,” she sobbed in the footage obtained by Peoples Gazette.

She revealed that the kidnappers have contacted the family, demanding a ransom of N30 million for Mr. Adewole’s release. “They are asking for N30 million to free my child. Please help me,” she pleaded.

The Gazette reported that on Saturday, armed bandits attacked a passenger vehicle on the Ifon/Owo road in Ose Local Government Area, killing two people and kidnapping several others.

The state police have confirmed the abduction and are actively pursuing the bandits to rescue the victims.

In response, the Ondo State Youth Network (OSYN) has called on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to enhance security for residents. In a statement signed by the group’s coordinator, Afe Ezekiel, and spokesperson, Christopher Olusa, they urged the deployment of a joint task force comprising the Nigerian Police Force’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Amotekun Corps, and the Nigerian Army to high-risk areas.

They also called for the establishment of a special security committee to address the issue, demanding that the government ensure the immediate release of all kidnapped individuals and take firm measures to prevent future incidents.

The youths warned that they would protest if the state government fails to meet their demands, asserting, “We cannot stand by while our people suffer.”
