Police nab three suspected gunrunners

The Katsina State Police Command has apprehended three individuals suspected of being involved in arms trafficking.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, shared this information during a press briefing on Friday in Katsina.

Aliyu revealed that a significant quantity of ammunition was seized from the suspects. He added that the arrests were made by the police in the early hours of August 29, around 12:45 am, in Dutsinma Local Government Area of the state.

He said, “They were arrested while attempting to deliver 740 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition to suspected armed bandits in Yauni Forest, Ummadau Village, Safana LGA of Katsina State.”

Aliyu said the preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects received the ammunition from someone in Nasarawa State to deliver to one Harisu, a suspected notorious bandit kingpin, currently at large.

“They have confessed to their involvement and implicated Harisu as the mastermind,” he added.

He said that the command was working tirelessly to apprehend more suspects and bring them to justice.

“This achievement demonstrates our commitment to combating armed banditry and gunrunning in Katsina State and beyond,” he said.
