FG Shuts Eko Bridge For Two Months

The Nigerian government has directed the immediate closure of the Eko Bridge and Ramps for eight weeks.

This was announced in a statement issued on Saturday morning in Lagos announcing that the major road would not be available for public use from Friday, September 27 till November 20 for asphalt resurfacing work.

“The closure will be full at some sections of the bridge and partial at other sections. This critical project aims to improve road safety and enhance the driving experience of motorists,” the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Mrs Olukorede Kesha said in the statement issued on Saturday in Lagos State, announcing the closure of Eko Bridge.

According to her, the bridge repair will involve milling the existing asphalt and relaying new asphalt on the bridge and Ramps to address wear and tear and ensure a smoother, safer roadway.

However, the statement also contained an advisory on alternative routes and detours for drivers because of the closure of the Eko Bridge.

According to her, with the the closure of the Eko Bridge, motorists going to the Island from Funsho Williams Avenue, should use the service lane at Alaka to connect Costain and access Eko Bridge.

“Island: Access Costain to connect Eko Bridge and link Apongbon. Motorists heading to the Island from Funsho Williams Avenue can make use of the service lane at Alaka to connect to Costain and access Eko Bridge to continue their journeys.

“Alternatively, motorists heading to the island can access Costain to connect to Eko Bridge and link Apongbon to their destinations.

“Motorists can also connect Apongbon inwards Eko Bridge to link Costain to access Funsho Williams Avenue.

‘Motorists can also make use of Costain inwards Alaka/Funsho Williams Avenue or alternately go through Apapa Road from Costain and link Oyingbo to access Adekunle to link Third Mainland Bridge for their desired destinations.

“In the same vein Motorists heading to Surulere are advised to use Costain to link Breweries inwards Abebe Village to connect Eric Moore/Bode Thomas to get to their destinations.”
