The Nigeria Police Force has introduced a post-election security strategy as the 2024 Edo State Governorship Elections conclude.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Frank Mba, responsible for overseeing election security, announced this initiative aimed at ensuring peace and stability throughout the state.
Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force’s spokesperson, shared details on the police’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday. The strategy features a “Show of Force” exercise intended to boost public confidence and demonstrate preparedness against any potential threats to safety.
“The Show of Force Exercise is intended to reassure citizens that the Police are fully prepared to respond to any challenges that might arise. It is one of several measures put in place to safeguard public security,” Adejobi stated.
Additionally, DIG Mba has directed increased police presence around facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), key election stakeholders, and other vital infrastructure across Edo State.
The police urged residents to continue their daily activities peacefully and warned that any attempt to disrupt the prevailing calm would be met with swift and decisive action.
“The public is advised to remain law-abiding. The security forces are more than ready to ensure that peace is upheld throughout the state,” the statement emphasized.
