Edo Deputy Gov Shaibu warns MDAs to prevent looting as Obaseki’s tenure nears end

Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has issued a strict warning to Permanent Secretaries and heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to prevent political appointees from looting government properties as the administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki approaches its final days.

Shaibu made it clear that the incoming administration will hold officials accountable for any missing assets under their supervision.

He noted that the tenure of political appointees, such as the Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, Commissioners, and various Special Advisers and Assistants, will end on November 11.

“As we prepare to conclude our administration, I have instructed Permanent Secretaries and MDA heads to ensure that political appointees do not engage in looting government properties. They will be responsible for any missing assets when the new administration takes over,” Shaibu stated.

He emphasized that Permanent Secretaries and directors within MDAs are responsible for safeguarding government assets and warned that failure to do so would result in serious repercussions.

The Deputy Governor also reminded officials that removing government-owned items is illegal and will not be tolerated.

“Permanent Secretaries and MDA heads must remain vigilant in protecting these assets. If they fail, they will be held accountable. Political appointees are also cautioned against any actions that could lead to legal consequences,” Shaibu added.

With the current Edo State administration nearing its end, Shaibu’s warning highlights the importance of a smooth and responsible handover of government assets to the incoming administration.
