EFCC arrests 13 suspected internet fraudsters in Uyo

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced that operatives from its Uyo zonal directorate in Akwa Ibom State have arrested thirteen suspected internet fraudsters.

This was disclosed by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Mr. Dele Oyewale, in a statement dated October 8, 2024. According to Oyewale, the suspects were apprehended on Monday, October 7, in the Nwaniba area of Uyo following credible intelligence regarding their fraudulent internet activities.

The EFCC operatives recovered several items from the suspects, including two Lexus 350 saloon cars, one Toyota Camry, and one Toyota Corolla. In the statement, Oyewale said, “Operatives of the Uyo Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 13 suspected internet fraudsters in the Nwaniba area of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.”

“They were arrested on Monday, October 7, 2024, in a sting operation following credible intelligence on their fraudulent internet activities.”

Recovered items from the suspects include a Lexus 350 saloon car with registration number BGK 698 SU (Abia), another Lexus 350 saloon car with registration number ABC 573 BC, a Toyota Camry V6 with registration number UYY 888 HR (Akwa Ibom), and a Toyota Corolla with registration number KTM 613 AA (Akwa Ibom), along with six laptop computers and 20 smartphones.

The statement further noted that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
