Fani-Kayode’s Special Assistant slumps, dies in Abuja Hotel

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has announced the sudden death of his longtime Special Assistant, Mr. Ndifreke Saviour Mark, who collapsed and passed away in an Abuja hotel.

Fani-Kayode shared the news on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, October 21, 2024.

According to Fani-Kayode, Mark had left his residence early on Sunday, October 13, to attend Mass at the Catholic Church of Assumption in Asokoro. Afterward, he went to Mildy Lodge and Apartments in Garki, Abuja, with an unidentified individual, where the tragic incident occurred.

Fani-Kayode explained that Mark, who had been his loyal aide for over 34 years, was found unconscious in the hotel room.

“According to the police, he took a room at the hotel, spent time with an individual, and apparently slumped and died in that person’s presence,” Fani-Kayode stated.

Mark was rushed to Asokoro District Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The individual who was with him at the time has been taken into police custody as a full investigation into the circumstances of his death is underway.

Expressing his deep sorrow, Fani-Kayode described Mark as a trusted confidant and a loyal aide, saying, “He was like a son to me, and his passing is a huge blow to my family and me. We shared many dreams and aspirations, and his loss leaves us with much pain.”

Authorities have detained the hotel staff, including the receptionist, for questioning. Both the manager and the owner of the hotel have been invited by the police, and the hotel was sealed for two days as investigations commenced. The room where Mark stayed remains sealed.

Fani-Kayode assured Mark’s family, including his wife, Barrister Patience Ndifreke-Mark, of his full support during this difficult period. He also emphasized his commitment to seeking justice should foul play be confirmed.

“I have absolute confidence in the FCT Police Command to uncover the truth. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death,” he added.

In his tribute, Fani-Kayode remembered Mark as a kind and compassionate individual who was loved by many.

“He was reliable, caring, and incapable of hurting a fly,” he said.

Mark is survived by his wife and two children.
