The Presidency has urged Nigerians to refrain from pressuring President Bola Tinubu regarding the new minimum wage proposal.
Assuring the public, the government stated that Tinubu will forward the bill to the National Assembly once it is prepared.
Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, questioned the rush for transmitting the bill in an interview with Punch. His comments follow Organised Labour’s request for consultations before the bill’s submission, citing delays.
Organised Labour, comprising approximately 300 leaders, expressed concern over the delay impacting the National Executive Committee.
Despite the President’s announcement of consensus on the new wage during his Democracy Day address, Labour disputed this claim.
Onanuga acknowledged uncertainty about the bill’s submission timeline and appealed for patience, emphasizing the unsustainability of the ₦250,000 wage demand previously stated by the workers’ union.
