MultiChoice, Nigeria’s leading satellite television provider, has adjusted subscription rates for its DStv and GOtv services following a court mandate. The company’s decision to raise prices earlier had prompted criticism, citing rising operational costs and inflationary pressures.
The Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal (CCPT) in Abuja intervened, compelling MultiChoice to revert to previous subscription rates pending further evaluation. Effective June 16, 2024, the new rates for DStv packages are as follows: DStv Premium now costs N29,500 (down from N37,000), Compact+ is N19,800 (reduced from N25,000), Compact is N12,500 (previously N15,700), and Confam is N7,400 (from N9,300).
Similarly, GOtv subscribers will now pay the following reduced rates: Super+ at N12,500 (formerly N15,700), Super at N7,600 (down from N9,600), Max at N5,700 (reduced from N6,300), Joli at N3,950 (previously N4,500), and Jinja at N2,700 (from N3,200).
This adjustment comes after MultiChoice faced regulatory scrutiny and public outcry over the price hike, with the CCPT’s intervention aiming to mitigate consumer impact and ensure fair pricing practices.
